The Pacific Coast Paddle

... one stroke at a time

One woman’s attempt to advance healthy oceans policy by calling attention to the science that calls for it - all along America’s coastal communities.

In Summer 2010 I will be taking on my biggest challenge yet - the Pacific coast - as I will be making my way from Seattle to San Diego in an outrigger canoe.

For this paddle, I’ll be partnering with the Blue Frontier Campaign.

My goals are simple.  To me, “doing my part” means conducting a high-visibility paddling expedition to educate the people about the crisis our ocean is facing and highlight what needs to be done to protect it.  I also hope to motivate and inspire people to do what they can to make a difference in the world.

During the forty-something weeks per year that I’m not amidst an eco-activism-paddling adventure, I’m a stay-at-home mom, whose as regular a citizen of my community as anyone else.

My paddling advocacy began in 2007, when I paddled my way for over 2,000 miles up the Atlantic seaboard to educate people about the problems facing our oceans, which was my signature "Miami2Maine” paddle.  In 2008, I teamed up with NRDC to help rally public support for a national oceans protection bill and collected "Save Our Seas" messages from citizens to present to Congress. In 2009 I continued my campaign by paddling from Florida’s Atlantic coast around to New Orleans.   I’ve paddled more than 3,500 miles of America’s coasts with my message for action over the past three years.
